# School emails, on your family’s calendar

> Follow the school, the team and the dentist: the dates in their emails go on your calendar with a reminder, and move when they move them.

muse.space wrote this guide, and "we" in it means muse.space. muse.space is an independent project. It is not affiliated with Apple, Meta or any other company whose products it works with.

Picture day in paragraph four, practice moved to Wednesday, the RSVP due before the party. Follow who sends them, and each date goes on your family’s calendar with a reminder. When the sender moves or cancels it, your calendar follows.

## Watch it read an email

The same reader your account uses. Pick a sample, paste your own or add a photo; no account needed, and nothing you give it is kept.

Try it, without an account: [pick a sample email, paste your own, or add a photo](https://muse.space/?try=school#try). Nothing pasted or added is kept.

## Follow who sends your dates

### 1. Connect your mail and your calendar

One app-specific password connects iCloud Mail and iCloud Calendar together. Gmail, Fastmail, Yahoo and a mailbox of your own work as the mail.

### 2. Follow who sends your dates

We suggest the school, the team and the clinic from your own mail, and you can follow up to 50 senders. Only mail from them is read, with the newsletter, schedule or flyer attached to it.

### 3. Choose the calendar

A shared one, like iCloud’s Family calendar, puts each date in front of everyone you share it with, each with their own reminder.

## Your calendar keeps up

“Picture day moves to Monday” moves the event, with its reminder. A cancellation marks it cancelled and takes the reminder away. An event you changed yourself stays as you made it, and the dates page shows what the sender asked beside it.

## What is read, and what is kept

- Only new mail from senders you follow, in the mailboxes you choose.
- A language model on Cloudflare reads each of those emails to find its dates, after one-time codes and sign-in links are taken out. Nothing is used to train a model.
- We keep the dates we added, so we can move them later. Never the emails.
- An email that tries to give orders to whatever reads it adds nothing to your calendar, and the dates page says so.

The [security page](https://muse.space/security) lists everything we keep, and for how long.

## Before you start

### Does it work with ParentSquare, ClassDojo or Brightwheel?

With any of them that sends email. ParentSquare sends each post, or a daily digest, by email, and its dates are read like any other. An app that only sends notifications to your phone gives us no email to read.

### What about the newsletter that comes as a PDF?

It is read with the email: PDFs, scanned ones included, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, and pictures of flyers. A file we can’t read, like a locked one, is named under that email on the dates page.

### Does it work with Google Calendar?

Not yet: Google Calendar can’t be written to with a password. Gmail works as the mailbox, and the dates go on an iCloud or Fastmail calendar, or a calendar server of your own.

### Can my agent see these dates?

Yes. They are on your calendar like any other event, and `dates.list` tells Muse, Claude or ChatGPT which came from mail and from whom.

### What does it cost?

Nothing for up to 3 connectors, and a password counts once, so iCloud Mail, Calendar and Contacts are one. Personal, for everything more, is $5 a month or $48 a year. It is not on sale yet, and until it is we give it with codes.
